Seville Orange Thornless

£75.00

Citrus aurantium:

This is the famous marmalade orange from Seville in Spain.

It is also used as a flavouring in many different drinks around the world.

Round bitter fruits are produced on vigorous trees after wonderfully scented flowers, also used for Neroli oil production like the French perfume  varieties.

This is a very old selection of Seville orange which is unusually almost completely thornless.

It has quite a history and comes from the Mitford family who can trace the selection back several generations.

The blossom was used for the brides on their wedding day and then a plant was propagated for them to plant in their new home.

Quite a cold tolerant tree so another one for those hardy citrus experimenters.
