Meiwa is also known as the large round kumquat.
The skin of kumquats has all the sugar in and as this variety has a thick skin and very little juice, it is the sweetest favoured of all kumquats.
Although kumquats are pretty hardy, they need the most heat to flower, so we keep them inside our glasshouses even in the summer to get fruit.
