Pursha or Romana Lime

£95.00

Citrus x limonia x Citrus x depressa:

There is much confusion as to the exact identity of this variety but we are pretty sure we have finally got it.

We believe it to be a cross between the rangPur lime and sheekwasSHA mandarin of Okinawa fame.

It is catalogue number  335 in Ferrari's "Hesperides" and called "Lima Romana Piorum in Hortis", which translates to Roman garden lime. Piorum translated on its own means sweet but not with Hortis on the end so this is probably the reason it has been confused with the sweet Romana Lemon.

The flavour varies tremendously throughout the year and it can be super tart to rather sweet, but its like a mandarin with attitude with a spicy refreshing flavour and often has a small nipple protruding from the bottom.

With the people of Okinawa eating Sheekwassha and living longer than most other people in the world, perhaps Pursha has inherited some of it's parents long life properties.........?

A definite must have for collectors of old Citrus varieties.
